...which is also known as Ooty to the rest of us. Our first stop was for a spot of lunch at the Holiday Inn, which offered a lovely view. Unfortunately, not directly from the restaurant. Food was nothing to shout about but the Indian choice will always be the safe bet.

We then wandered the streets since there was not much else we could do in the light afternoon drizzle. Part of the agenda was also to look for the legendary King Star Confectionery that sells the 'original' Ooty chocolate. Between us, we must have bought five kilos of the guilty treat.

I never would have attempted the Anthony Bourdain stunt of indulging in street fare if not for the adventurous Siaws, especially Su. She was immediately tempted by the fried green chillies, which turned out to be quite delicious. She even had the cut mango with massala.

What was also interesting was that this stall was run by two chaps that look educated and spoke excellent English. They were even dressed like office workers.

Fried green chili? Aren't those Spicy HOT! Yikes! wow, brave brave woman.... I really like these pictures. I can't believe it's only 75 degrees F there right now.
Actually they were not that spicy. But you wouldn't know til you've bitten into it. The monsoon cooled us down. Otherwise it would be in the 80s.

Love the first montage, especially the picture of Su & Boon auditioning for their bit part in a bollywood movie!
What did Boon hear abt the watermelons? Seriously, we tried the sugarcane. Nothing happened. Mayb it was sheer luck :)
Huh? There is rum and rasin at Kingstar! My fav.
Yup, bought some for sarah. she loves rum and raisin ice cream! but she thinks the date n nuts chocs are nicer.
Hi PB - someone said he saw a vendor in Mumbai put his watermelons in a drain to hydrate them. Also, in Ooty, we saw this guy buy a carrot and munch on it. I wanted to eat a carrot too but changed my mind when later, we saw another vendor wash carrots from a run-off. The run-off wasn't from a stream, but from a drain of a house up on a hill, so i guess the water & carrots aren't so clean.
Hweeb - Bollywood? No! We were trying to do a hweeb! Notice how you always pose in your pics? We were trying to do the same but just couldn't pull if off.
