The Nilgiri Mountain Railway became a world heritage site in 2005. The ride from Ooty to Coonoor would take about 45 minutes. The train conductor told us which side to sit for the best view. Unfortunately, others were more clued in and had already reserved those seats.

Several times, stunning vistas would open into the valley, which we never would have got from the road. The conductor would tap me on the shoulder and point and prompt us about tunnels that were coming up. He called the place the second England, "England is the King and Nilgiris is the Queen."

I feel so fortunate! My whole holiday put into words and pictures, and I'm not doing a jot of work! CK's like a scribe or recorder.. Except we're not royalty!
Heee...the head-sticking-out-of-window is a typical MUST-HAVE picture :)
