Morocco 2003

I can't believe that I have been out two nights in a row without my camera, meaning no pics for the blog. I had decided from the start that no blog of mine would be published sans pics. Since Poohbearie had asked me for pics from my holiday to Morocco (she claimed to have seen uploaded ones), decided to do some work today and post these.

PB apparently didn't like Morocco, especially because of the touts etc. However, I loved every bit of my Moroccan adventure. Ranjan and I traversed a good part of the country and as such saw such varied scenes from desert to snow. Two pics of Hassan mosque above, the 2nd largest in the world.

The Romans left their mark as we saw in the ruins. The market stall were all colourful with brillaintly painted tajines, the earthen pots used to stew the various meats and vegetables.

The mosaic work was simply unbelievable. Even unused fountains continued to sport them. They were everywhere on arches and facades.

Intricate carvings and wrought iron work were also all pervasive.

Decorated doors and inner courtyards.

The souks in Marakesh were a revelation. They wove round and round and you got the impression that it was so huge that you might be lost in there forever. But two days in, we were able to make our way around and a few recognisable landmarks meant that we were always able to find our way to the main square, if not home.

Casablanca had only one thing going for it. The endless beach. Forget that the likes KFC fronts one end. The myriad activities that were going on and the very stylish police on horseback were enough to keep you busy. I stayed til sunset and loved every minute.

We lucked out with our Riyad in Marrakesh. The cobbled streets which we had to drag our baggage through gave us dim hopes of having decent accommodation. Once we got throught the narrow gate, it was like an oasis, a throwback to the 30's. Classic furnishings in every room and a lovely courtyard right in the middle. There was even a pool, but who was going to take a dip in the middle of December?

The tannery which PB didn't like. To me, it was great. It was the complete sight, sound and smell experience, for sure.

What amazed me most was how blue the sky was all the time. And everything was so clear with hardly any pollution. That's probably one of the reasons why the Atlas Studios at Ouazarzate gets so much work. Parts of "Gladiator" and "Alexander" were shot in Morocco.

Thanks!Nice pics as usual:) Btw, I did a link to this post in my blog.

I think maybe I saw the hard copies of the photos instead.

For Morocco, I went to Tangier, Chauen, Fes, Merzouga, Marrakesh, then Casablanca to catch plane. All within 8 days. Rush and stressful like mad.

Tks Mag. I actually checked it twice. Guess it's just one of those things.

PB, now I understand why you were stressed.
