Olive Beach

Do pictures really speak louder than words?

Was tempted to publish this blog with only pictures but the decided against it.

Haven't been to the the Olive Beach brunch in a while. The weather was perfect for sitting outside. They have put up a tarp due to the unpredictable weather at the moment. This cast a blue hue over everthing but the ambience was still really good.

I think the quality of the brunch had improved quite a bit since the last time I was there. The starters were enough to keep me happy. The oysters were much fresher and larger than I remembered. The seared tuna with rocket was excellent. Of course there were the de-rigeur cold cuts and cheeses. The waiters kept us happy by bringing whole servings of the clams and mussels. The seafood pizza has a thin crispy crust and was perfect. Prawns from the grill passed muster as well.

But above all else, what keeps me going back to the Olive Beach? The cocktails. Raj (short for Jeyaraj) served up some excellent concoctions. We started with the usual combination of caipiroska and appletini's (which was brought by the jug.) There was a cranberry mojito, lychee and chocolate matini's, and even a round of strawberry shooters. Sharon even ordered a pinacolada, which prompted Geena to suggest that Bangalore might be turning her into a 'jiu gui' (or alcoholic in Chinese.)

DJ Vashi didn't really have to 'crack his head' on what to play. He only had to stick to the the standard latin/mediterranean fare, which suited the ambience just fine. Tim Jordan from Family Services was also out his guitar and two ladies, doing their rounds of the tables, serenading us with everthing from Latin tunes to the Corrs.

For dessert, there were these fried fritters of fillo-pastry served with syrup and a dusting of castor sugar, called curretos I think, that we all pretty much agreed were fab. We must have had at least three servings.

Nothing went to waste at our table, especially not if there was any alcohol in them. JT and Thomas took to downing the last few drinks. Surprisingly, and most unlike the evenings, no one was hassling us that brunch was over. I'm sure we would have been served right up to 4pm had we stayed.

One observation worth making is perhaps HL's choice of wardrobe for the afternoon, given the current situation in world affairs. I leave you come to your own conclusions.

All in all, it was a brilliant Sunday afternoon. I don't think we overindulged or overate at all.
